It didn't.

I was told I talked too much because I made a leader look bad. Later, another manager told me I needed to let others shine. Two weeks after that, I was criticized for not speaking up enough.

The expectations kept changing.

I wasn't imagining it. I was experiencing what many accomplished women experience every day: unwritten rules that no one teaches you but everyone seems to expect you to know.

That experience changed the trajectory of my career.

Instead of simply becoming a better leader, I became determined to understand why competent, capable women are often overlooked while others with fewer results continue to advance.

That's what led me to emotional intelligence—not as a personality trait or a soft skill, but as a leadership strategy.
